Univision’s TUDN today unveiled unparalleled multi-platform coverage for the 2021-2022 UEFA Champions and Europa League seasons.
Beginning next week, TUDN will bring viewers up to 12 combined contests each matchday for the two preeminent competitions during group stage on Univision’s linear networks – Univision, UniMás, TUDN, and Galavisión – and streamed on TUDN.tv and the TUDN app, with the remaining matches available via TUDNxtra.
Center stage will be Wednesday’s broadcast of Club Brugge against Paris Saint-Germain to be broadcast live on the over-the-air Univision television channel. The match has the prospect of PSG fielding the attacking duo on Messi-Mbappé-Neymar after they return from international duty. In previous seasons, the expectation would have been that Bayern Munich against Barcelona would have been on Univision, but you can’t blame Univision for deciding to feature Bruges-PSG as the main event.
In the studio, “Fútbol Central” will preview all the matchups prior to kickoff. Then, following the final whistle, “Misión Europa,” will break down the day’s results. Additionally, TUDN’s whip-around program, “Zona Fútbol,” will provide the ultimate soccer viewing experience, breaking in live to concurrent group stage matches with instant analysis and reaction to the game as it unfolds.

TUDN’s world-class coverage will feature European soccer legends Hristo Stoichkov and Iván Zamorano, as well as experts including Marc Crosas, Tony Cherchi, Hugo Salcedo, Alejandro Berry, Jose Hernandez, Raúl Mendez, Adriana Monsalve and Lindsay Casinelli. Iconic voices Luis Omar Tapia, Diego Balado, José Luis López Salido, Paco Villa and Dani Nohra will call the action on the pitch, with reporter Daniel Chanona delivering live updates and analysis on location from various stadiums across Europe. Cristina Romero returns to provide short-form features throughout the competition.

Is Univision (main) channel going to air every PSG champions league? Just seen that tomorrow’s game PSG v Man city will be univision just like last game. Any indication of their plans?

As long as Messi and Neymar are playing for PSG, Univision will probably show every one of their games on the over-the-air Univision channel. They’re “playing” to their audience.

@locofooty, I have seen research that ~60% of soccer-minutes viewed in the US are in Spanish and ~50% of soccer-minutes viewed are TUDN-family

Research suggests Hispanic viewers’ highest league interests are Liga MX, La Liga, MLS, and EPL (Serie A was quite low IIRC). TUDN dominate Liga MX, carry some MLS, and run frequent ads for La Liga on ESPN+
.
Agree with @JP and @Christopher, TUDN are great for UCL/UEL. Typically their focus OTA match is a La Liga team or a big story (e.g., Messi) or a big global team (EPL all else equal)

Yeah, sublicense is out the window now with networks having their own streaming services. Turner and CBS just don’t have a good outlet for spanish programming. Turner put MLB Playoffs in spanish on CNN En Español lol. I’m sure Univision paid top money for UCL as well.

I have very limited spanish but I often prefer the passion of the commentators as opposed to the banality of the English ones in particular the ones doing the PL matches. I would rather listen in Indonesian than put up with any more of Lee Dixon…

@locofooty, I can easily see why CBS wouldn’t want to sublicense the games out for Spanish commentary as it would eat into their P+ subscriptions. Still shocked Turner and then CBS allowed UCL to be fragmented.

JP, smh at no Serie A in spanish. At this point, sublicensing some to BeIN or GolTV wouldn’t make sense?
It also shows you Comcast’s thinking by essentially blocking Telemundo from showing the marquee Sunday match OTA when it’s on Peacock in the english side.

@locofooty, agree language isn’t everything. For 4 seasons I primarily watched UCL/EL in Spanish on Univision, Unimas, etc. If it weren’t for Serie A on P+ would be 5 and counting.
