UEFA’s Euro 2024 games and qualifiers may air across FOX Sports and fubo TV, according to a report by Sports Business Journal.
Under the terms of the deal, fubo TV will stream an unspecified number of UEFA 2024 games beginning with the qualifiers. FOX and fubo have yet to decide which games fubo will stream. However, FOX Sports will likely cherrypick the big matches. With this in mind, the remainder are likely to go to fubo. In fact, with UEFA 2024 qualifiers running between March 2023 and March 2024, fubo TV will have plenty to choose from. That’s a consequence of FOX’s limited bandwidth available across their linear properties.
SBJ reports that the deal will include Euro 2024 through Euro 2028 qualifiers and tournaments. Plus the package will include the UEFA Nations League.
FOX Sports does have Tubi, its streaming service. With a ‘Sports On Tubi’ section, that may end up being the home for some of the games too.
ESPN had held the rights to the European Championship and qualifiers since 2008. It was ESPN’s coverage of Euro 2008 that was a turning point for the broadcaster. It was the beginning of a critically-acclaimed coverage of tournaments from Euro 2008 through Euro 2020.
The agreement makes a lot of sense for a couple of reasons. Firstly, 21st Century FOX had an investment in fubo TV. (21st Century FOX was later sold to Disney). Secondly, fubo TV began life as a soccer-specific service. It knows the audience better than most of its competitors.
Euro 2024 games in Spanish
FOX Sports and fubo TV may announce the deal for Euro 2024 games in the next two weeks. Meanwhile, sources say Univision may finalize its deal for Euro 2024 games (and Euro 2028) in Spanish.
More recently, fubo TV has exclusively streamed World Cup qualifiers from CONMEBOL to viewers in the United States.
Streaming of top international soccer competitions continues to evolve. Interestingly, Euro 2008 was the first major international tournament to air in its entirety over the Internet.

Michael, if they bid individually then that’s a horrible decision by UEFA to split the actual EURO tournament. I don’t think that’s the case tho. I think it’s just FOX going Comcrapstic and wanting to reestablish their relationship with fubo.

@Turfit. That is correct. You are right. I have friends that I work with in our Madrid office and they say that most of the European Leagues even La Liga are not over the Air. He says that they have used to be an extra “Sports Pack” charge when there was cable….but now nobody has cable and they have to pay to stream El Clasico. He doesn’t understand why it is such a big deal in the States. I tell him that it is the American culture. TV has been a huge part of covering it and people have nostalgia. That being said, it is going away whether we like it not. Eventually, we will be like Europe…if you want sports….you will pay a premium for it. Also, that was interesting to hear about SpaceX & Amazon I didn’t realize that they were that far down the road with that concept to actually be able to deploy it. If they can provide direct competition to the major ISP’s then maybe that can drive the price down for us in the Cities as well as those new customers in the rural areas.

@Michael, services like SpaceX’s StarLink and Amazon’s Kuiper will provide people in rural areas and most other areas with high speed internet before fiber is run to them. I read an article last week that said that Disney was looking into “spinning off” or selling ESPN cable channel. Because they forecast no growth in cable sports tv and the channel is tied up to long term expensive contracts. If there is truth to that article, then it makes a lot more sense why El Clasico was only on ESPN+.

The only thing keeping Cable from going away completely is that people that don’t live in Metropolitan areas still don’t have high speed internet. However the cost of laying fiber is cheaper than it was 5 years ago. Eventually Fiber will be in the rural areas as well. Once that happens there will be no Cable. Unless I am miss-reading this article, a lot of people are misunderstanding the terms. If i am wrong I apologize to me it reads that Fox/Fubo TV didn’t have a joint bid and Fox sublease some of the games out. To me it reads that Fox and Fubo TV both bid individually, and they both won a peace of the package. Fox would have nothing to do with putting the games on Fubo TV….other than they probably pay more so they get the best picks of the game. If Fox does choose to use Fubi, I think some of Fox’s games will go on Tubi…not any of the games that Fubo TV. So that means that there were be more games streaming. Fubo TV’s objectives are comply separate from Fox’s.

Sean, how do you see this being a streaming problem. This is a cable problem. It’s FOX going Comcrapstic, splitting up the rights by partnering with fubo. You said it yourself…you could watch most of the games on ESPN+, a streaming service.

This is the problem with streaming. Extreme price hikes to watch games. I am so hoping NBC/Peacock win EPL. I am not shelving out a fortune to watch games I now get for free or for a small cost on ESPN +.

It seems like exclusivity and not a simulcast situation. I can see low profile matches in qualifiers or nations league going exclusive to fubo. If they’re splitting the actual EURO tournament, that’s a very bad idea. Don’t see how that helps anyone. People will just pirate streams, VPN, or watch in spanish like JP lol. SMH @ fox.

This is a terrible move. Who do they think is going to pay $65+ to get Fubo to watch qualifiers and nations league? At least if it was all on Fox or Tubi, you could get everything with basic cable or by spending $5. $65+ is not acceptable, I will find other means to watch then, as done with CONMEBOL. Fox really ruins everything they touch – I figured this wouldn’t be that bad, at least the games will be available with a cable login or a $5 service. Nope – $65+ to see some of the matches, the bigger ones Fox will let Alexi butcher for a wider audience.

If it’s being split between Fox and Fubo, that’s a bad move! For cord cutters who want English commentary, getting Sling for a month or two to watch FS1/FS2 is palatable. Having to get Fubo for 60+ is not.

Involvement of Fubo only makes the deal palpable if you’re already a Fubo customer, Access to English language Fubo has a high cost of entry when compared to ESPN+ (costs about 10x more) plus you can’t just subscribe to their sport / soccer channels you have to take their whole range of entertainment channels too. A massive step backwards.

Would this deal include the UEFA World Cup qualifiers? I initially thought it did but haven’t seen it mentioned in the details.
I think the negativity toward FOX is because of their propensity to Americanize The Beautiful Game. If they could dispose their MLS oriented broadcast team and bring in those from BT sport, iTV, or Sky Sports who are off for the summer it would be a few steps in the right direction.
I will go on record and mention that I’ve watched the lions share of the 2018 WC on Telemundo and listened on TalkSport because I have no desire to listen to American oriented commentators.
The involvement of Fubo TV will at least make this deal palatable because the qualifiers are a big feature on ESPN+ and would be a sizeable loss. Fubo is doing a decent job with the CONMEBOL qualifiers.

Terrible news for the fan that likes to catch as many matches as possible. Makes me think that ESPN is saving their money for all-in on Premier League as they wouldn’t have been outbid on this without a bigger plan in mind.
