The best way to experience the most popular soccer league in the world is to watch it in 4K. For the 2022/23 season, the good news is that more Premier League games in 4K are available.
Speaking on a conference call this week with the media, NBCUniversal had some exciting developments to share.
First, Premier League games that are shown in 4K during the 2022/23 season are UHD HDR. To be specific, that is ultra high definition high dynamic range. Subsequently, that’s an upgrade from previous seasons.
“There will also be increased number of broadcasts from it compared to the past,” said Pierre Moossa — Coordinating Producer for NBC Sports Group’s Premier League coverage. “We will still be taking the fully produced world-feed from the Premier League and will be distributing that to many different aspects. There are plans in place coming up for it to be available on other platforms as well.
“It will (feature) Premier League graphics with their commentators.”
Where can I find Premier League 4K broadcasts?
While it is great news that fans can watch these matches in 4K, only fuboTV, DirecTV, and YouTubeTV currently have access to these games at the moment. fuboTV is an exceptional option for soccer fans that also watch entertainment and news programs as well. With plans starting at $70 per month and offering more than 100 total channels, including the aforementioned 4K option, it is hard to argue with its value. This is especially true considering the wealth of games available each day and night on the platform.
In the case of fuboTV, the streaming service has a separate NBC 4K channel. Note that you’ll need a 4K television or monitor to watch the game in the highest definition possible.

For instance, this weekend both televised games are also available in 4K. That’s Crystal Palace versus Arsenal, and Everton against Chelsea.
As pictured above, the 4K UHD HDR require special cameras to broadcast in 4K. Not every game will be 4K, but this news is a step in the right direction.

But does 4K HDR make much difference over non 4k TV, is it worth the effort? I have a 4K HDR TV and subscribed to Youtube TV’s 4K service recently. I watched the two EPL games in 4K this past weekend. I spent considerable time tweaking the settings based on advice from TV geeks on-line. The result was a good picture, but no real difference over a very good HD non-4K broadcast on USA Network or NBC in the USA.

Depends on the size of your screen too. A 4K 50 inch screen is not going to see the same benefit as an 85 inch screen or projection to a 100+ inch. I have a 75″ 8K Samsung and the difference is quite noticeable.

Everyone has their own “good enough” threshold, which is influenced by factors including device, viewing position, number of viewers, etc.

It is like asking how much difference there is between a $20 and $100 bottle of wine. Many people notice little if any difference while others get excellent enjoyment out of the upgrade. Nobody is right or wrong, and the proof is in the pudding
.
Once you have 1080p (full HD), you likely enjoy a very good to excellent viewing experience. Some but not all get even more enjoyment out of 2160p (4k). As well, 30fps vs. 60fps can be more important than full HD vs. 4k

Do you have contacts at Comcast? If so, can you inquire as to why Comcast isn’t showing the 4K matches again this season? It’s really frustrating seeing that they own NBC but don’t offer this option to subscribers.

My understanding is that Comcast Xfinity is working on expanding their 4K coverage, but they have no further information beyond that. It’s frustrating because it should be a slam dunk since, like you mentioned, Comcast owns NBCUniversal (as well as Sky Sports).

Thanks. What makes it worse is that prior to last season they were offering it! They weren’t marketing it and it wasn’t easy to find in their guide, but they had it. Then last season they stopped. So it’s not like their system wasn’t capable of broadcasting multiple versions.

I just called them and asked for it. If enough people start requesting it then perhaps they’ll market it seeing that the majority of the games are on Peacock (or those that aren’t are on their USA and NBC Sports 4K).

Sorted my Post game analysis. BBC’s Match Of The Day and MOTD-2 will be shown on the BBC iPlayer at 7PM US EST. For me that is THE analysis show. Got a VPN ($90 for 3 years) added a browser extension into Chrome. Logged into a London server, created a User ID on BBC and am now ready to watch MOTD starting this weekend.
As a side benefit all my World Cup coverage is sorted once I have done the same with the ITV Hub. Global access is wonderful and I do prefer the UK pundits over the 2 Robbies.

Any more news on any shoulder programming on USA or Peacock? This is one disappointing aspect of NBC’s coverage. Lack of preview shows, review shows, season previews. Wish they offered these similar to ESPN+ and Paramount.

Preview shows, review shows, season previews, all that stuff has been on the Premier League TV channel that scrolls 24/7 on Peacock. There is very little worthwhile in the Peacock Premier League Hub at the moment except for a Dan Patrick very cute Zoom interview with Rebecca Lowe, an intro to the season that covers Jesse Marsch, Rinaldo, Newcastle, FFP, LIV golf, American owners of PL clubs, etc. and Rebecca plays along as Dan Patrick steers it a certain way.
All the Premier League Productions shows in the UK are just starting up, the first Fanzone is on right now at 10:30 EST and if form follows it should show up in the HUB on demand after it airs. I was hoping for a Kelly & Wrighty preview show but to no avail.
All the normal USA shoulder programming was announced in press releases earlier this week, Premier League Live, Goal Zone, Premier League Mornings all at the usual times, the USA program guides have them all to record, and Peacock start times reflect them like with the Liverpool 7am start. After the initial press releases went out this week from NBCSports someone on Pierre Moossa’s staff must have realized Goal Rush wasn’t included and that mistake was corrected, we now have Goal Rush at 10 on Saturday.

Thanks Steve – I really really wish they would stick the Premier League Production preview shows and review shows in the Premier League Hub on demand after they air. I realize I can catch all the highlights one-by-one in the team tiles but love how that show combines all the action into 1 hour with play-by-play.
NBC used to produce a Match of the Day show that was similar a few years ago and that was nice as well.

Besides Comcast not caring enough to implement a way to have ALL matches, be they NBC, USA or Peacock, available in one place, like they managed to do with Gold all those years ago my biggest Peacock complaints from last year were:
1) not knowing the schedule of the 24/7 PLP scroll, it was like a state secret trying to figure out when a given show was going to air and then be repeated;
2) that not all of the PLP shows were then archived in the Hub which meant some of the really good shows like the one on Tactics was never available on demand on Peacock, so it had to be caught only on the 24/7 scroll. Of course, all the dopey Fanzone shows were archived but not the Tactics show. I can’t speak to the Match of the Day style show but my guess is Comcast feels like they have that covered with Goal Zone & PL Mornings which just recycles all that from earlier. (Last thing I want to see on Sunday morning are highlights from all the games I watched on Saturday.) I’ve forgotten the name of it but PLP used to do a show on a Monday or Tuesday that re-capped the weekend and almost always had an ex-referee on to go over controversial calls, maybe that will return. It was like the Tactics show, could only be watched on the channel and never available on demand;
3) the final thing that really annoyed me was when NBC/Comcast blacked out the PLP Match Day Live pre and post shows on the 24/7 channel when there was no comparable pre- or post shows by NBCSports on cable or Peacock at the time. Happened plenty of times last year. Very frustrating, would cost them nothing to lift the blackout since they weren’t providing that programming anyway.

This article does not appear to be accurate. Fubo did not have any 4K broadcasts this weekend and does not have the premier league on their 4k schedule for this season. Has it been verified that they will have 4k soccer again this season?
