EPL Commentator Schedule

EPL commentator assignments on NBC Sports, gameweek 4

With the September international break coming to a close, we now know the Premier League commentators for matchweek four.

This week, there are a number of great games and storylines to keep an eye on. None of those storylines will dominate as much as the possible  return of perhaps the greatest player ever.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who returned to Manchester United at the end of the summer transfer window, could play for the Red Devils when they host Newcastle on Saturday.

Ronaldo played for the 13-time Premier League Champions from 2003 to 2009. Moreover, he bagged 118 goals in under 300 appearances for the club. Still, the Portuguese may not play. He only started practicing with the team midweek after returning from international duty.

To start the week, Patrick Vieira seeks his first win as manager of Crystal Palace when he welcomes top-of-the-table Tottenham.

Then, there are six games in the 10 a.m. ET window on Saturday, Sep. 11. Furthermore, Leicester City-Manchester City and Watford-Wolves highlight the window, as well as the possible appearance of Ronaldo with Manchester United.

Unbeaten Chelsea look to continue their hot start to the season when they cap off Saturday’s action against Aston Villa.

There is just one game on Sunday. Leeds welcomes Liverpool to Elland Road at 11:30 a.m. ET. Then, on Monday, Everton looks for their third win in four Premier League games as they host Burnley at 3 p.m.

On both Saturday and Sunday, Rebecca Lowe hosts the pregame and postgame shows. Robbie Earle and Robbie Mustoe join Lowe on Premier League Mornings, Premier League Live and Goal Zone. On Monday, Ahmed Fareed takes Lowe’s spot behind the desk.

Saturday’s coverage begins at 7 a.m. with Premier League Mornings. Sunday’s pregame show begins at 9:30 a.m. with a two-hour edition of Premier League Mornings.

Great Villa win. However the disallowed goal (at about 45 minutes) probably should have been allowed. One handed control — refer to Newcastle goal previous day — goal allowed (around 40 minutes) when goalie had two hands on the ball and was then dispossessed and then goal scored. Not consistent rules. What do the EPL commentators think about these apparent inconsistent rule applications

When does the Matchday 5 list come out?

@Paxton. I agree. Good response. It is a matter of taste. The extreme critical opinion of long time broadcasters who are well respected in the field is over the top.
I start to wonder what is the age or maturity level of some that comment on this site. You could say ‘i don’t care’ for one’s style and here’s why, that’s fine. However, the sensationalized ‘he is the worst’ and name calling “mug” commentary is totally rubbish.

@Kevin Leuck So… you tell us to get “REAL Professionals” (plural), then name only one alternative. Your opinion then is not at all credible.

What amazes me is opinions that are so incredibly extreme (ie ‘the worst commentator ever’). Please spare us such grade school extremes. When a commentator ends up being on the top team of a broadcast, doing all the high profile matches (like Arlo Whitw and Peter Drury) they hardly can be considered ‘the worst commentator’ ever. Obviously, a good majority think differently.

Express your opinions, yes. Disrespectful to them, no. And you are throwing shades at me in a simple conversation as well, says a lot about who you are.

lol I really like the poetic type “beautiful game” guys that sprinkle in history but to each his own. Dont lose sight of the fact that we can almost watch any game anywhere its played these days.
Spent the day relaxing watching EPL from 630am until the end of lukaku’s beatdown of Villa today and now watching the Fiorentina – Atalanta match. wonderful video and the commentator is really good with alot of info, Viola has a tough one but great to watch.

@Jim and Gaffer I agree, Tony Jones does have an unmistakable voice. And so enjoyable paired with Tony Gale!

    September 11, 2021 at 2:11 pm

@Weber Niraschtoe it’s just people expressing their opinions on commentators they like or don’t like. Take a deep breath, you’re going to be okay (or probably not)

I had to take in the Arlo White commentary unfortunately while on vacation… unable to access my normal feeds…. Why aren’t people in arms about this mug? The worst commentator ever…. Shut up please! And I see Matteo bonetti is commentating .. are you f’ serious … get real. Get rid of the Ray Hudsons and get with REAL Professionals

No tv coverage in the NYC market for the late kickoff due to 9/11 coverage. NBCSPORTS app also down.

Drury, White, Tyler, etc., etc. Le Saux, Dixon, Beglin, and so on. We’re fortunate that each is gifted with a distinctive commentating style and flair for calling the game. Some people like chocolate; others prefer vanilla or strawberry. Different strokes for different folks.

Lovely to see the usual haters about Peter Drury once again in the comments section, unappreciative of a person at a level that they will never reach in their life.

great start to a full day of watching football. Palace-Spurs was a very entertaining match, the crowds were hot all match. The players were feisty and physical all morning. Enjoyed a big breakfast (no pics sent to Rebeca).

Now onto the the show with Man U and some new signing….. will be bouncing all over peacock for the 10 am matches.

Then this afternoon Fiorentina vs Atalanta! long day but looking forward to this one.

I still think Derek Rae is the standard, not hyperbolic or biased except when it comes to Scotland (;-)

Has there ever been an EPL Commentator assignments column that isn’t about how much people hate/love Arlo or Peter Drury (I’m firmly in the can’t stand Drury camp). I’ve never heard a Tony Jones call I didn’t thoroughly enjoy. Anyone else like his commentary?

    • Christopher Harris

      September 11, 2021 at 6:01 am

I’m a big fan of Tony Jones. What an unmistakable voice!

The MU match is probably only on usa network because of CR7. It probably was going to be on peacock before he came back.

I honestly don’t understand all the criticism of Arlo White. I just don’t get it. He is a fine play caller for matches and his passion for the match is outstanding and infectious.

I’ll give you an example of a dreary bad play caller: Martin Tyler, who will be calling Monday’s Everton-Burnley match. His monotone puts you to sleep. He doesn’t even really call the match and things that happen on the pitch. He spends time providing commentary of a player or a club as play continues. And his voice pitch never changes. Zzzzzzzzzz.

Graeme Le Saux not in the same league as Lee Dixon? I beg to differ. I think they are both terrific.

    September 10, 2021 at 3:28 pm

Getting Lee Dixon for only one match is disappointing. Graeme Le Saux is not in the same league.
As for Peter Drury, he is outstanding and will turn in his typical professional shift.
Good insight from Kevin on the behind-the-scenes thinking with USA carrying CR’s first match.
Chris, thanks for providing the list of commentators each week.

@Shriniwas more like Peter Drury inevitably pops up to talk the game to death in florid language and absolutely kill any enjoyment I was anticipating. I wouldn’t have fancied Arlo either. All the other ones are enjoyable for me. At least there’s Five Live—Ian Dennis along with the pictures will go down at treat!

This would have been a perfect weekend for Goal Rush to resume.

“Peter Drury is the only guy who will do justice to the match when Ronaldo returns”

You mean he’ll just go on & on about him and scream his name if he takes a throw-in. Anyone wanting Newcastle to win will feel like kicking their TV in after 5 mins of his totally biased, awful so-called ‘commentary’.
I’ll give you $5 each time he mentions Newcastle. It will be zero times.
Thankfully the Saints game is on at the same time so I won’t be watching.
    Saints 3 West Ham 1.

    September 10, 2021 at 1:44 pm

Assigning Ronaldo’s first match back to USA (not CNBC or NBCSN) seems notable as it’s the likely home of the Premier League on cable once they shutter NBCSN.

    September 10, 2021 at 1:00 pm

Thank god that they are showing the world feed for the Manchester United game. Peter Drury is the only guy who will do justice to the match when Ronaldo returns, not Arlo White and gang.
