EPL Commentator Schedule

EPL Commentators on NBC: Feb. 12 and Feb. 13

The games from midweek ended a two-week hiatus from the EPL for many of the top clubs. Now, the top-four race continues to heat up with more games scheduled for this weekend.

Of 20 teams, 18 are in action this weekend. Remember, Chelsea is currently in the United Arab Emirates for the FIFA Club World Cup. The Blues play Palmeiras in the final on Saturday morning for the first trophy awarded in 2022.

However, Chelsea is now a distant third compared to Manchester City, who leads the table after 24 games. After a comfortable disposal of Brentford midweek, Pep Guardiola’s side takes on another newly promoted team this weekend. The Citizens travel down to Carrow Road to play Norwich, which is on a decent run of form, relatively speaking.

The other title contender this season is Liverpool. Yes, the Anfield side is nine points back. However, they do have a game in hand. Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané return from their AFCON duel as Liverpool plays Burnley.

The main thing bringing life and ferocity to the Premier League right now is the race for top four. Currently, there are five teams within six points of each other. One of those teams is Arsenal, who scheduled Chelsea for this weekend. That game will have to wait.

Still, keep a close eye on the battle between Tottenham and Wolves. Spurs lost at home against Southampton on Wednesday, while Wolves also dropped points while hosting Arsenal. Both teams are out of European spots right now.

The other two teams in that race are Manchester United and West Ham. United hosts a challenging Tottenham side, while West Ham battles an up-and-down Leicester City.

The relegation race is also heating up. Everton, Newcastle, Norwich, Watford and Burnley only have five points of separation.

NBC coverage this weekend

As part of NBC’s promotion of its Super Bowl coverage, the Premier League studio crew is live from SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, CA. Additionally, Rebecca Lowe is on staff for NBC’s Olympic coverage from Beijing.

Therefore, Arlo White, the usual lead commentator for NBC, is behind the desk for studio coverage. Robbie Earle, Robbie Mustoe and Tim Howard also made the trip out to California as part of the studio coverage.

As usual, Premier League Mornings precedes the earliest games, with in-between coverage coming from Premier League Live.

Also, Goal Rush returns this Saturday to accommodate the three games in the 10 a.m. window.

For UEFA CL Round of 16:

CBS primary game (also streaming at Paramount+)

Tuesdays – Peter Drury and Jim Beglin

Wednesdays – Clive Tyldesley and Robert Green

(note: no CBS broadcasts on March 15 or 16 due to 4pm EDT kickoff, as US switches to Daylight Saving Time on March 13.)

    Paramount+ secondary game (streaming only)

Tuesdays (except March 8) – world feed

    Wednesdays – world feed

Identities of both commentators for the March 8 Paramount+ streaming broadcast of the secondary game, Bayern Munich vs Salzburg, have NOT been announced yet by CBS Sports, but you can probably guess with 95% certainty the name of the PxP commentator whom CBS is willing to spend money to hire to call that match on March 8 in order to have a “marketing event” to encourage viewers to subscribe to Paramount+, which still offers a 7-day trial.

The Premier League TV (PLTV) “black out” on Peacock TV Free (US) ended on Saturday at 3pm ET, just in time for the Matchday Live Xtra post-post-match highlights show which has the same studio talent as the 3rd match window of Matchday Live.

    Seema Jaswal
    Shawn Wright-Phillips (representing Man City)
    Tim Sherwood

Steve Bower is the “lead” PLTV Matchday Live presenter, with Manish Bhasin #2 and Seema Jaswal #3. Other freelancers such as Jules Breach, Kelly Somers, Will Perry and Ian Irving will host Matchday Live from time to time.

Steve Bower will swap out of a PLTV weekend hosting (presenting) shift with a weekday shift in order to call PxP commentary of a match for BBC One’s Match of the Day from time to time.

“Goal Rush” is offered by Peacock TV Premium very inconsistently.

Only 1 out of 3 “Goal Rush” was offered during mid week: the one on Wednesday.

This Sunday’s “Goal Rush” is NOT being offered by Peacock TV Premium even though other rightsholders around the world, notably Optus in Australia, offers it to its subscribers.

Premier League TV Matchday Live starts on Saturday at 6:30am ET on “Premier League TV” channel on Peacock TV. 1st half hour is usually available before the “black out” begins at 7pm ET to protect the NBC-produced pre-match show (on Peacock TV Premium this weekend with Arlo White & 2 Robbies.)

PLTV studio lineup for Saturday 6:30am ET and 9:30am ET windows:

    Steve Bower
    Michael Owen
    Owen Hargreaves (representing Manchester United)

That means the 3rd window starting Saturday 12:05pm ET will have:

    Manish Bhasin (or Seema Jaswal)
Shawn Wright-Phillips, Shay Given or Joleon Lescott (representing Man City)
    Pundit #2 TBD

Daniel Mann will be a treat on Newcastle comms after the grating voice of Pien Meulensteen in midweek, I really wanted to like her but it’s hard. She’ll get better, one hopes.
