Even though it has not even been four months, this feels like a long-awaited season of Premier League play. New signings, new managers and new teams entering the fold shape up for more drama in the Premier League.
As seen back in November, NBC reupped its TV and streaming rights deal with the Premier League to be the lone home in the United States. In fact, this deal stretches all the way through the 2027/28 season.
For now, NBC enters its 10th-straight season broadcasting the top flight in England to American viewers. There is plenty of drama in store throughout the season, and that starts in matchday one.
It all starts in London. Crystal Palace welcomes a revamped Arsenal side that absolutely blitzed through its opposition in its preseason friendlies. New signing Gabriel Jesus racked up the goals with the Gunners, looking to match that in league play.
On Saturday, all three of the clubs promoted from the Championship return to the Premier League. Fulham, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest are the three clubs entering the top flight. They play Liverpool, Aston Villa and Newcastle, respectively.
Sunday’s highlight game is likely West Ham United against Manchester City. The defending champions look poised to continue their domination at the top of the Premier League. Can any club slow down the Citizens, which have won four of the last five Premier League titles?
NBC coverage on opening weekend in the Premier League
The majority of the games discussed above are exclusively airing on Peacock this weekend. The early start to the season coincides with NBC’s coverage of the 2022 Women’s Open Championship. The only games airing on TV are Friday’s London derby between Arsenal and Palace. Then, on Saturday, Everton and Chelsea play at 12:30. Both of these games air on USA Network and Universo.
Not all is doom and gloom, however. Goal Rush, the whip-around show that covers all the goals and major moments for one window of games, makes its return, as well, on Saturday at 10 in the morning. In that time frame, there are four games on the schedule.
Peacock is also the home of much of NBC’s studio coverage this weekend. Premier League Live on Friday at 2 p.m. and Saturday at noon are both on USA Network, as is the concluding Goal Zone for those days.
However, the pregame and postgame shows for the other windows are on Peacock, just like the games.
Also, keep an eye out for games airing in 4K. You do need a certain subscription and hardware, but there are games each weekend airing in 4K. For the opening weekend in the Premier League, that is Friday’s Arsenal-Palace game. Then, on Saturday, the Everton-Chelsea contest is also in 4K.

Odd that the sport (golf) that had the gold standard of commentary set by Henry Longhurst has now been invaded by Arlo White. Old Henry knew when to shut up and let the game be the star. Arlo will bludgeon golf with inane statistics. Now NBC needs to let Tim Howard go after his Lukaku debacle.

Peacock app on my Flex device was updated. New navigation UI that was smoother. Joining a match in the middle gave the option to watch major moments before going live.
At noon, it looked like USA feed cut off Peter Drury in the middle of his soliloquy to go to commercial

After hearing more from Peter Drury and the on the pitch team does any of the American listeners on USA Network think that an “American” voice in the broadcast booth would be a good addition? No ugly American here and truly appreciate all the English play by play commentators but just thinking it would help the American audience.

My personal opinion would be ,no. I don’t really want to hear: “In the six”, “on frame” or “pee-kays” or other americanisms when I’m watching matches from another country.

It was so nice to watch the Arsenal-Crystal Palace match on USA and having Peter Drury on the call, a vast improvement over listening to Arlo White!

I didn’t see much of that but did watch lots of Everton-Chelsea. I’ve heard him lots of times before of course, but I was struck here, with LeSeaux and Dixon, that there was much less chatter during the match. Drury does have his soliloquy moments to start and end matches (and sometimes after big goals in big matches), but he often does just let the action speak for itself, which results in Dixon and LeSeaux speaking less. I thought Drury’s penchant for speaking less was due to being on British tv with Beglin and other less talkative co-coms. But he’s carried it over here and it works.
A welcome change in dynamic from White…can’t say I miss him. Hope he’s happy with his Saudi blood money.

Spain’s LaLiga offers English-language world feed commentary with English-language graphics, and Spanish-language world feed commentary with Spanish-language graphics.
Argentine 1st Division offers Spanish-language world feed commentary with Spanish-language graphics ONLY. The English-language feed available via Paramount+ US is produced exclusively for Paramount+ US.

It’s the same old, same old with NBC Sports. Nothing has changed for the new season. I was expecting new graphics, new score bug, etc. How hard is it to hire a digital graphic designer. Is that too much to ask? I guess so. Why does a yellow card look like a pretzel stick. At the pre-game show, I noticed they used the lineups from Premier League production instead of the lineups graphics from last season. Improve your product NBC, give us something new. Rebecca and the analysts are awesome, great team, the people behind the scenes are beyond clueless.

That line-up presentation was awful. Their bottom-screen banner covered the names of the subs. I hope they realize how bad it was and fix it. Wonder if they even do a tech rehearsal to spot things like that.

ahhhhhh its back!!! I am able to work from home as needed and of course I was sitting in front of the TV at 2pm, work laptop on my lap, to watch opening day.
GREAT to have the NBC team back in the studio for an hour. It felt kinda wierd not having Arlo with the 2 guys but I’m a big Peter Drury guy so it was fun.

It is too bad USA has to carry the live golf from Scotland at the same time as so many matches this weekend. But, As a former Arlo defender (until the LIV move), I wish all the best to Peter Drury, who we know is terrific, for a long relationship with NBC . I hope the chemistry with Graehm & Lee will be good, too. Here we go week 1

Yeah, his departure must have been fairly negative behind the scenes. Weird, how of three significant on-air people who’ve left (Neil Ashton, Kyle Martino, Arlo) only Ashton got anything resembling a decent goodbye. I was surprised that Martino’s leaving didn’t really register anything.
