EPL Commentator Schedule

EPL commentators on NBC: Aug. 27 and Aug. 28

Well, matchday three certainly provided some early season fireworks in the Premier League. Manchester United picked up a much-needed win, while Liverpool now enters desperate times. Meanwhile, Chelsea dropped the ball at Leeds, who blitzed the Blues, 3-0. Finally, Manchester City dropped points in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Newcastle.

So, where does that leave us for this upcoming weekend? Well, the highlight involves two of those upstart teams surprising the ‘big boys’ early on in this campaign. Leeds United travels south to battle Brighton with both teams sitting on an impressive seven points after three games. Both clubs play an entertaining form of soccer, albeit different. Brighton’s methodical play should be an interesting test for and against Leeds’s aggressive nature.

There is a London derby this weekend, even if it does not involve the stereotypical heavyweights. Fulham travels to north London to take on Arsenal at the Emirates. Aleksandar Mitrovic and Gabriel Jesus are both on strong form after three games in a game that looks likely to feature some goals.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City all have fairly straightforward games against Leicester, Bournemouth and Palace. All three look to bounce back after disappointing results in the previous matchday.

Finally, a pair of teams that entered the season with high hopes, Aston Villa and West Ham, look for some success against each other this weekend. West Ham is the only team without a point in this infantile season, while Aston Villa’s three points came against Everton.

NBC studio crew and coverage

Despite the fact that there are not many ‘elite’ games this weekend, it still shapes up for exciting stuff across the NBC channels and platforms.

As usual, Rebecca Lowe hosts NBC’s studio coverage this weekend. Her two analysts are Robbie Earle and Robbie Mustoe.

Goal Rush makes another return for a busy 10 a.m. kickoff window on Saturday. The whip-around style show follows one game in particular, but provides the updates and goals from across the grounds during that time slot.

For fans of the Premier League in 4K resolution, there are three games scheduled for 4K this weekend. On Saturday, the Manchester United game against Southampton, as well as the aforementioned London derby, are in 4K. Then, on Sunday, the game involving Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur is in 4K. Make sure you have the right subscriptions and hardware to watch the Premier League in 4K.

Any chance of getting the list of commentators calling games for the 30th, 31st, and September 1st? I want to know which one Pien is doing so as not to watch (or if need be turn off the sound).

We’ll post the list coming up at Noon ET today.

I may have missed it, but which if any of the matches coming up on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday will be on USA? Or will they all be only on Peacock?

One of the commenters for Nottingham and Tottenham today, indicated “What goes around comes around” towards the end of the game when a foul was committed against a Tottenham player. GET A CLUE! How many yellow cards were issued against Nottingham, 6? YEP! Commentator, you are a dolt.

      • MarkB

        August 29, 2022 at 6:12 am

Richarlison was the dolt. You try to show up a defeated opponent at your own peril.

Good call on the Arsenal v Fulham game by Drury and Le Saux, including the almost passively aggressive way the two of them insisted on pronouncing “Jesus” differently, or was it accents? There were a couple of times hearing Drury shout it, sounded like a curse word

Fanfest coming to Philly in October!

      August 27, 2022 at 10:58 pm

do you mean pronouncing it with a British accent

While on the subject of match commentators, I must ask this puzzling question. Why do so many guys in sports broadcasting have such a hard time pronouncing the word “particularly”? They all love using the word, but very few seem to know/care about its correct pronunciation.

And yes, Kartik and Christopher are guilty as well.

Wow- after all the calls for anyone but Arlo here last year, way before LIV golf…now a contingent of Peter Drury naysayers.

Be careful what you wish for, I guess.

Yes, Drury was enthusiastic for United defying expectations Monday in what was expected to be a L’pool cakewalk – but I heard it more as celebrating a surprisingly wild match than being partisan. Your mileage may vary. And I’m a Liverpool supporter.

Looks like the Goal Rush match is Liverpool – Bournemouth. A bit disappointing, I was hoping for Chelsea Leicester City.

    • Michael F

      August 26, 2022 at 11:04 pm

@Mercator. Where did you get that information? When I look at the NBC Sports Pressbox site under weekend details for Premier League coverage I only see this…

“Goal Rush Whip-Around Show on Peacock During Five-Match Window Saturday at 10 a.m. ET, Including Matchup of Unbeatens as Leeds United Visit Brighton & Hove Albion”

      • Mercator

        August 27, 2022 at 1:03 pm

It’s the same match on all the global broadcasters, shows up on the guide for the rest of them. Joke is on me I guess, Chelsea – Leicester was great but they picked the right match for goals.

        • Michael F

          August 27, 2022 at 3:19 pm

I agree. Out of all matches in that window, that was the least appealing of them all, unless you are a devout Liverpool fan. I like a little competition in a match. And Chelsea v Leicester was easily the most enticing one to view as a neutral fan. And it was a great match.

Nottingham V Tottenham Peter Drury & Jim Beglin it looks as if is world feed because of Jim Beglin. Or is this an error?

    • Christopher Harris

Not an error according to NBC Sports.

Hi Chris, Mark Scott who’s usually on the Bundesliga world feed is doing the Premier League this weekend. That’s a surprise. I like it. I’m familiar with his voice/commentary as someone who follows the Bundesliga. Looking forward to Wolves vs New Castle.

For those of you who wonder what happened to Arlo? Last weekend he called the Chicago Fire game.
His time in the Saudi golf series has helped him. He is much calmer and actually did decent job.

    August 26, 2022 at 1:17 pm

    Phew! Dodged a bullet there.
Had a 50/50 chance of getting Drury for Saints v Man Utd. As a Saints fan that would have been unbearable.

You could hear him now. 80 mins. Saints 3 Man Utd 0. Can ‘united’ do it. Who can forget that time. We know they can. A goal here and we (sorry – I mean ‘they’) are back in it. RooonaaaaallllDOOOOOOO!!!!! What a throw-in that was. Only he could have thrown the ball like that.

Full time. 4-0 to Saints. They may have lost but surely it’s just a blip on the ‘united’ comeback trail. We all know they are the best and should have won today.

    • John Culea

      August 26, 2022 at 1:57 pm

      Nice digs.
No question that Drury is a Man Utd. homer. I hadn’t really noticed until the Liverpool match when his bias was in full voice.
As for the weekly Pien poison, I will fast forward through DVR to see any action and watch it on silent.
Sorry to see Lee Dixon not on any matches.

So sorry for those of you who plan on watching Aston Villa vs West Ham. It appears that you are the unfortunate ones who have listen the Pien Meulensteen lottery………. At least you can watch on Telemundo to get away from the screeching and nonsensical commentary….. So irritating to listen to her .

    • Ron

      August 26, 2022 at 1:01 pm

Not as irritating as these comments

It would be fair to say that you (and others) have made your point now

        August 26, 2022 at 1:32 pm

Dont spoil the fun Ron !

          August 26, 2022 at 1:42 pm

Pien is to commentary as Ozzie Osborne is to opera. Painful.

          • MarkB

            August 27, 2022 at 12:14 am

Pien is to commentary as a dentists driil is to your senses when they hit a nerve in a molar. And yet you still get some on here playing the same old tired “You don’t like her because she’s a woman” crap. No, I don’t like her commentary because she’s an incompetent, screeching banshee.

      • greg

        August 28, 2022 at 9:57 am

Watched the 1st half of Villa v West Ham, first time I’ve heard much of Meulensteen…honestly don’t get the hate for her. She lets the game breathe & defers to the analyst for in-depth comments. If anything her analyst in this match, Lee Hendrie, talks a bit too much. Her voice is calm in general, raises pitch when things happen (which in this game hasn’t been often, but still)…she’s fine. No worse than any of the male announcers who aren’t Drury, Darke, Proudfoot, Taphouse, or Tyler (in his prime).

Given that it’s the same people who tend to hate on her, Carney and other women announcers, you can only come to one conclusion about why.

  15. Ron

    August 26, 2022 at 12:26 pm

Significant error here – Matthew Upson is the co-commentator at Chelsea with Seb Hutchinson

Jim Beglin is at Arsenal with Conor McNamara for the world feed.

Conor McNamara & Andy Townsend are handling the world feed at Nottingham Forest

For the non-live games the games at Chelsea, Manchester City and Brentford are being covered by BBC cameras

Sky are at Liverpool, Brighton and Aston Villa.
